Columbia University’s Teachers College Reading and Writing Project (TCRWP)

6 Feb 2023

From February 6th- 10th,our school was very lucky to have Ms. Cynthia Williams, a Staff Developer from Columbia University’s Teachers College Reading and Writing Project (TCRWP), working with our teachers and our K2 and K3 children. Our teachers were given demonstration labsites in K2 and K3 classrooms as a way to learn more about the best practices in workshop teaching. Our teachers were very engaged in learning more about the latest initiatives from TCRWP and were given the opportunity to work with groups of children to practise these new strategies to help develop their skills in teaching reading. Our children were very eager to share their books with Ms. Williams and the teachers and work in small groups with literacy activities. Ms. Williams was impressed with the skills and the routines our children have developed during their Reading Workshops.

The goal of the TCRWP program is to develop a passion for reading and writing while at the same time establishing the important skills and strategies necessary to become avid readers and writers! We as a school are committed to ensuring our children, through their inquiry, develop into life-long readers and writers! By having this type of professional development training for our English and Chinese teachers, we are ensuring that we achieve this goal by equipping our teachers with the skills and knowledge to develop and enhance our students' literacy skills.
