Beach Clean-Up Day

The PTA organized a Beach Clean-up at Shek O Beach in collaboration with A Plastic Ocean Foundation on Earth Day last Saturday. Close to 70 participants joined the event and braved a rainy afternoon to collect over 80KGs of plastic rubbish on the beach.
Our families learnt about the disastrous impact of waste on marine life and how some of this becomes micro-plastics which ends up in our food chain. We used reusable gloves, tongs and rubbish bags and collected rubbish along the beach. Each bag of rubbish was weighed, and we shared our observations on the types of rubbish collected and how we can reduce, recycle and re-use to protect our earth.
We were thrilled to have Dr Koong along to encourage the children and help pick up rubbish! The children learnt about conservation of Earth whilst enjoying a fun day outdoors!
