The Causeway Bay Victoria Kindergarten & International Nursery (“CBVK”) community deeply mourns the passing of Dr. Maggie Koong, BBS, JP, our dear Chief Principal, and joins with her family and friends in honouring her remarkable life and legacy.
Dr. Koong was the cherished pillar of CBVK, a beacon of hope and inspiration whose deep passion, tireless dedication to the school, and steadfast support for everyone in the CBVK family will be lovingly remembered. An internationally respected expert in early childhood education, her lifelong commitment to nurturing the next generation exemplified her unwavering dedication to giving back to the community. With her exceptional kindness and genuine love for students, she touched countless young lives with her warmth, compassion, and steadfast belief in their potential.
Dr. Koong received her Master of Education from The University of Hong Kong and Doctor of Education from Durham University, focusing on bilingual education and early childhood development. Her distinguished career in educational leadership spanned over 30 years of extensive experience in educational practices. She co-founded and served as Head of Academy at VSA, Chief Principal of Causeway Bay Victoria Kindergarten & International Nursery, and Chief Principal of Victoria (China) Education Group encompassing ten Victoria Kindergartens in Mainland China and Victoria Park Academy, always placing the wellbeing and growth of students at the heart of her work. In addition, Dr. Koong served as Supervisor of the kindergartens of Hong Kong & Kowloon Kaifong Women’s Association, Director of the School Management Committee of the kindergartens of the Women's Welfare Club (Eastern District), School Manager on the Council of The EdUHK Early Childhood Learning Centre and Sun Fong Chung Primary School, and Supervisor of Sun Fong Chung College.
Throughout her career, she made invaluable contributions to raising the standards of early childhood education, care, living environments, and child rights in Hong Kong, China and across the world. She served as Immediate Past World President of the World Organization for Early Childhood Education (OMEP), Past Vice-President of UNICEF Hong Kong, a project advisor to UNESCO, a steering committee member of the Asia-Pacific Regional Network for Early Childhood, an NGO representative for the United Nations, and Chairperson of International Play Association-Hong Kong Branch. She was also a member of the China National Society of Early Childhood Education and an Executive Committee member of the Chinese Society of Education.
In recent years, Dr. Koong devoted her time and energy to advancing the quality of tertiary education and teacher training. She was a founding council member of The Education University of Hong Kong, served as a member of the university's Presidential Advisory Group, and helped establish the university's School of Early Childhood Education. She also served on the Council of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Board of the Faculty of Education of The University of Hong Kong, and the Board of Trustees of Whittier College, USA. As a guest lecturer at various tertiary institutes and keynote speaker at academic and professional seminars and conferences, she passed on her rich experience and enthusiasm for early childhood education to the next generation of professional educators.
Beyond the field of education, Dr. Koong has committed herself to extensive community service and social advocacy in mainland China and Hong Kong. In mainland China, she served on the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference of the Jiangxi Committee from 2002 to 2007 and has been a member of the Shanghai Committee since 2008, where she has held a position as a Standing Committee member since 2019. Additionally, Dr. Koong has acted as a Special Representative of the All-China Women's Federation and as a Standing Committee Member of the Executive Committee of the Shanghai Women's Federation. In Hong Kong, she has contributed as a member of both the Women’s Commission and the Equal Opportunities Commission and served on numerous government committees focusing on women's affairs, education policy, youth services, medical services, and equal opportunities. Furthermore, Dr. Koong has held leadership positions in several community service organisations, including the Hong Kong Federation of Women, the Hong Kong & Kowloon Kaifong Women's Association, the Women’s Welfare Club (Eastern District) Hong Kong, the Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative Hong Kong Association, and the Hong Kong PHAB Association.
Dr. Koong's exceptional contributions were recognized through numerous prestigious honors, including a Ten Outstanding Young Persons Award in 2000, a Bronze Bauhinia Star from the HKSAR Government in 2013, an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from Whittier College in 2014, Honorary Fellowship from The Education University of Hong Kong in 2015, her appointment as a Non-official Justice of the Peace (JP) by the HKSAR Government in 2017, and Honorary Fellowship from The Open University of Hong Kong in 2017.
CBVK, the extended Victoria family, and all those whose lives were touched by her wisdom, dedication, and passion will continue to honor Dr. Koong's legacy. We remain profoundly grateful for the transformative impact and lasting influence she has had on our community and the countless students whose futures she helped shape.

銅鑼灣維多利亞幼稚園暨國際幼兒園(CBVK)同寅對我們敬愛的總校長孔美琪博士BBS, JP安詳辭世致深切哀悼,並與她的家人和摯友共同緬懷她的卓越貢獻與堅毅出眾的一生。
孔博士不但是CBVK備受敬重的中流砥柱,更是啟發前瞻和親領行動的領航者。她深信每一位學生的潛力,培育無數年輕棟樑。她對學校的深切熱情、永不言倦的奉獻,對學生的真摯關懷,及對家長和學生的誠意支持,將讓我們永遠珍藏和銘記。
孔博士肩負30多年的卓越教育經驗,是CBVK的總校長。她亦是滬江維多利亞學校創辦人及維多利亞(中國)教育集團的總校長,領導集團內包括中國內地的10所維多利亞幼兒園及深圳麗林維育學校。她的工作核心聚焦在學生的福祉與成長,展現對教育的高度熱忱與無私奉獻。
此外,她擔任港九街坊婦女會屬下5間幼稚園的校監、東區婦女福利會屬下2間幼稚園及香港教育大學滙豐幼兒發展中心(幼稚園部)的校董,同時出任孫方中書院校監及孫方中小學校董。作為多間高等院校的客席講師,以及各類學術與專業研討會的主講嘉賓,孔博士以其卓越的專業知識及豐富的實踐經驗,啟迪並培養了無數新一代的專業教育工作者,為幼兒教育的持續發展奠定了堅實基礎。
孔博士擁有香港大學教育碩士學位及英國杜倫大學教育博士學位,專注雙語教育及幼兒發展;對提昇香港、中國內地乃至全球的幼兒教育素質,及兒童生活環境與權利保障具深遠影響。
她在香港、中國內地以致世界性受重視的教育團體和文教機構都曾擔任重要職務,包括世界幼兒教育聯會(OMEP)會長,聯合國兒童基金會(UNICEF)香港委員會副會長、聯合國教科文組織(UNESCO)專案顧問等。她亦任應屆中國學前教育研究會理事會理事、中國教育學會常務理事及亞太區幼兒教育專業顧問。
近年孔博士更積極推動高等教育及幼師培訓。她是香港教育大學創校校董,亦曾擔任香港中文大學校董、香港大學教育學院院務委員會委員,以及美國惠蒂爾學院(Whittier College)理事會理事。
除教育工作外,孔博士亦積極投身於廣泛的社區服務,關懷婦女福利和權益。在中國內地,她曾擔任全國婦聯及上海市婦女聯合會的特邀代表,在香港,她出任婦女事務委員會及平等機會委員會委員,在多個領導崗位上發揮重要作用,也在政策制定方面提供專業見解與建議,服務更延伸至中國人民政治協商會議。她於2002年至2007年間擔任江西省政協委員,自2008年起連續四屆擔任上海市政協委員,並於2019年晉升為常務委員,為國家和社會發展作出了重要而深遠的貢獻。
孔博士德才兼備,備受專業榮譽和認可。2000年當選香港十大傑出青年、2013年由香港特別行政區政府頒授的銅紫荊星章、2014年美國惠蒂爾學院授予的人文學名譽博士學位、2015年香港教育大學頒授的名譽院士銜、2017年獲委任為非官守太平紳士,以及同年香港公開大學授予的名譽院士銜,彰顯社會尊敬她的成就和奉獻。
